Abstract

This text has the objective of problematizing aspects related to the production of categories to classify music, as well as to highlight their relevance as sociological labels that also organize the experience of social life in different dimensions. It starts from the approach of a specific case of restrictions imposed by state agents to electronic music events in Argentina, triggered by what became known as "Tragedia Time Warp". It then focuses on the meanings mobilized by those who produced, listened to, danced to and distributed this music in the city of Córdoba. The adoption of an ethnographic perspective made it possible to identify tensions between the definitions produced by state officials and those delineated by people who related to this music in their daily lives. However, it was also possible to find certain coincidences between both groups in terms of value judgments about the Time Warp festival, since, for different reasons, this type of event was not valued positively by either of them.
