Manuel Castillo y la Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla

Francisco José Senra Lazo

Manuel Castillo and the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville

Abstract:

At the Opening Night of the Seville Symphony Orchestra, on January 10, 1991 in the  Lope de Vega Theatre of this capital city, the first work performed was the Himno de Andalucía in the version composed by Manuel Castillo in 1985. The Maestro himself  was present.
The last time he was seen at a concert was on December 10, 1998 in the Cathedral of   Seville. In that concert, José Enrique Ayarra and various professors from the Brass and  Percussion sections of the Seville Symphony Orchestra performed.
These were perhaps the most intense eight years of Castillos professional life, based on  the commissions, premier performances, prizes and acts of recognition he enjoyed. The  Orchestra and the Maestro consistently collaborated and enriched one another throughout this period. This article expands on their close relationship.
